Incoming UK Prime Minister

Andy Burnham replaces Keir Starmer, outgoing Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Burnham has not been open with the policies he would like to bring to this position. He has made guest appearances on podcasts where he emphasized socialist ideology, stating the need for increased wealth taxes on the "super rich". Burnham has also expressed interest in resuming oil drilling in the North Sea, in opposition to Starmer's administration.
Burnham will be the 7th Prime Minister of the UK in the last ten years. In England, a formal election is not required for a governing body to appoint a new leader. Burnham has large support from the leftist Labour Party of the UK.
"Build a new economy, where we put life's essentials under stronger public control... reindustrializing Britian, using public procurement to back British industry", Burnham stated on his first speech as Prime Minister this Monday. Burnham says he will make public his ten year plan for Britian later this year.

Big Beautiful Bill vs. Federal Student Loans

The "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" originally passed in 2025, made headlines this week because of a rule that is now taking effect July 2026. The Act states that colleges and universities must prove that their graduates earn more than the average salary of an adult with only a high school diploma. This is applied per degree program and not for each University at large. Failure for the University to verify that their graduates exceed the median salary for non-degree holders two out of three consecutive years will result in loss of federal student loans for that specific degree program.
Averages will be calculated by the University's respective state, or nationwide if greater than 50% of their student population is from out of state.
There are additional standards for graduate programs, where graduates of these programs must exceed the median salary of working adults with only bachelor's degrees in the same field of study.
This act will not affect access to these degrees, only the federal loans that students may recieve to pursue them.

The highly anticipated results of the independent autopsy, requested by attourney Ben Crump were released this week.
"These findings are inconclusive ... pending further investigation," Crump stated. The private autopsy found no evidence of foul play. The original autopsy performed by the Mississippi Medical Examiner Office is still awaiting toxicology results before it will be made public.

Typo Leaves Disaster Relief Bill Without Funding

In the Mississippi 2026 Legislative Session, House Bill 1911 was passed and signed into law. This bill would appropriate $15 million to grants for eligible Mississipians to strengthen their homes against strong wind and water damage. It is assumed that this bill was meant to be contingent on the passing of Senate Bill 2409, the Storm Resilience Bill. However, the bill was linked to SB 2406, which seems to be unrelated, dealing with State Aid road and bridge construction. Senate Bill 2406 then went on to die in committee in February of this year.
“You got 2406 instead of 2409, that's easy to do. If you look at a (keypad), the six is right above the nine.”, State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney stated. The Mississippi Insurance Department was able to secure $2 million for the fund from other sources but is lacking $13 million. Governer Reeve's acknowledges the error when signing the bill, that the $15 million could not be appropriated.
Author of the bill, John Read has not commented on the bill since its passing.

OpenAI Model Hacks Huggingface

During a test of GPT-5.6, the AI model supposedly hacked into Hugging Face's (a rival and open source AI company) servers. Some have called this a glorified PR stunt, with OpenAI "bragging" of what their model can do. There is no precident as to who in the company is responsible when an AI cyber attack is initiated seemly autonomously.

Flock CEO Apologizes

CEO of Flock Safety, Garrett Langley made a public apology this week for previously describing anti-surveillance activists as a "terrorist organization". Langley stated that groups like DeFlock do have legitimate concerns about Flock's business model. This apology comes after public backlash against Flock and some city departments like the LAPD terminating their contracts with Flock Safety.

Pray!

As Christians, it is often saddening when we see a world with no justice. Even worse a nation that perverts justice, where the innocent are punished and the wicked are in power. Jesus declares in John 16:33 that "in this world you will have trouble". The world is truly unjust. Though we will always live in a wicked world, we can be just ourselves through Christ. We do not belong to this world, but belong to God. We have a choice everyday to go along with the wickedness of the world or to follow Christ and live apart from the world. In John 15:18, Jesus states, "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first." Live just as you walk through life. Do not capitulate with the world. Live a life of prayer. Pray for those that hate you, that hate Christ, and that hate the Church. Pray that they would change their ways and live different from their past evil. Remember that you were once wicked and deserving of wrath, and yet Christ's mercy redeems you. That same mercy is extended to the ones that act in evil now, they only must to accept and follow Christ.
